In Weco Systems Group, we believe that the difference between powerful and great ideas is the quality of presentation. Over the years, we have presented ourselves as a highly technical, competent organization.
1992: Formed as an enterprise (WECO COMPUTER SYSTEMS) in Warri, Delta State in 7"x16" room provided by our GMD's Elder brother.
1994: Incorporated as a limited liability company, WECO COMPUTER SYSTEMS LIMITED and moved into a three bedroom flat in Warri, Delta State.
1994: We were chosen to provide Computer Technical Services for NISSCO at their base and Forcados Terminal Integrated Project (FTIP). We deployed Novell network over three locations across 200 desktops. This is over $500m project awarded by SHELL Petroleum to Bouygues Offshore.
1996: Propelled by the successes already recorded in "break and fix" decided to open office in Lagos at 33 James Robertson Street, Surulere, Lagos. This was precipitated to serve our major customer then called NISSCO part of BOUYGUES OFFSHORE GROUP.
1998: We opened our Port-Harcourt Office at 25 Ohaeto Street, D-Line Port-Harcourt. We have begun to see a major shift of oil companies in Niger Delta, Warri to Port-Harcourt. This was based on increased militancy in the Niger Delta region (mainly Warri). It paid off and was very timely.
1998: Due to growth, we moved our office from 33 James Robertson Street, Surulere to a full 5 bedroom detached duplex at 55 Bode Thomas Street, Surulere, Lagos.
1999: We were awarded a contract by Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) part of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to re-build their Campus LAN. We deployed high end 3COM Corebuilder 9000 and high speed Superstack II 3COM 3300 (over 10 switches) at various IDFs.
1999: We won the contract to provide active devices in the Union Bank PLC (Stallion Plaza), a 27-story building Head Office of the bank in Lagos. This multi-million-naira contract was executed using 3 Com Corebuilder 3500 and Superstack II 3300 (over 60 switches) at the IDFs. We also installed 3Com element manager, Transcend to run on top of HP Openview.
2000: Shell Petroleum awarded us contract to deploy high end Compaq 8500 8-way processor server in Shell Learning Centre in Leuwenhorst in Holland towards their Open University Program. We worked with Shell team in Holland to load, and test this equipment with their Open University software. We brought the equipment back to Nigeria, and installed it in Shell, Port-Harcourt. Since then, it has been working.
2000: We opened our Abuja Office. Abuja is the seat of power and governance though ICT awareness was low then but it is growing very strongly right now.
2000: We also became Cisco Certified Premier Partner (the third company in Nigeria to achieve such) hence gradual shift from 3Com offering to Cisco Systems.
2001: We re-located our corporate headquarters to Plot 200B Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos. Victoria Island is the center of business in Lagos. It controls over 60% of business transaction everyday in Nigeria. Everything about it is expensive. However, you will find who is who in Nigerian business.
2002: We changed our name to Weco Systems International Limited - our old name WECO Computers was restrictive. Our customers and prospects still see us as "break and fix" IT company than a Systems Integrator. Hence this change. We also needed to re-position to take advantage of blurring divide between Computing and Communications.
2002: We created four (4) business units namely Data / Voice, E-Security, Enterprise Management Solutions, and Wireless and Transmission. Each of the unit, was being run by a Business Unit Manager then.
2003: We won and built for FIRST BANK OF NIGERIA, the biggest Network Operating Centre (NOC) in Sub-Saharan Africa. This project is presently handling their desktop management, fault, availability, performance, operations, and bandwidth management. There is huge prospects for growth.
2003: Together with our business partners, we built Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Network across Lagos running in 3.5GHz frequency with MPLS backbone.
2004: We won, designed, and built SHELL PETROLEUM DEV. COMPANY network operating center. This project which is being run on HP Openview platform will manage their entire ICT infrastructure - covering networks, systems, applications and so on.
July, 1st 2004: WECO SYSTEMS GROUP was formed as a growth strategy. Our people want to express themselves further in the business. To accommodate this, we re-aligned our processes, structures, and people towards a new phase in our corporate life.
It is all part of our vision - "Year after year, WECO and its people will be regarded as an ICT company of choice."
We have a strong history and vision driven over the years by what we call WECO SPIRIT - It is a spirit of excellence - it states - At WECO, we have strong commitment to excellence and quality in all that we do, we call this the WECO spirit. It is the very ingredient, which gives us the integrity upon which our reputation is built. We hold this precious and guard it jealously.
From the above, you will certainly believe that we are not "a flash in the pan" organization. Our customers, bankers, close associates see us as very prudent with our resources. We could be "penny pinchers" but the truth remains that we never inherited anything from anybody. We worked hard and are still working hard for every kobo we have.
